We miss our gardens during the cold months and we know that you do too! That’s why each winter, Grey County Master Gardeners brings you our FREE 3-part Zoom winter seminar series.

These 1 hour virtual presentations are open to everyone and there is no charge. We have organized speakers and topics that we hope you find both interesting and inspiring.

This year, our theme is climate change and how it affects the home garden. You may have noticed changes in the amount and type of rainfall, when our first and last frost dates are expected, and different pests and diseases. Our environment is changing and we need to learn how to adapt our gardens to build resilience.

Up next, we have Ryan Godfrey presenting:

Gardeners are Climate(and Biodiversity) Champions

Saturday February 21

11:00am - 12:30pm

Virtual Zoom Presentation

Saturday, February 21

11:00am - 12:30pm via Zoom

Please join us as this dynamic speaker presents:

  • Linked challenges, linked solutions: the connection between climate change and biodiversity loss

  • The garden as an important space to integrate ourselves into the web of ecology

  • Specific actions we can take (and encourage others to take) in the garden that make a real, tangible and measurable difference

With a special nod to WWF-Canada's native plant learning hub - re:grow - an initiative that helps to develop ecologic stewardship skills for gardeners of all abilities and skill levels. (https://regrow.wwf.ca/)

Can’t attend the live session? That’s okay! All registrants will receive a link to the video recording afterwards.

Speaker bio: About our speaker: Ryan is a senior specialist on the Community Action team within the Restoration and Regeneration division at WWF-Canada and supports projects across the organization as WWF-Canada’s resident botanist. He is at home in the broadleaf forest ecosystem of southern Ontario’s Carolinian Zone. Ryan brings his knowledge and experience from academia, environmental consulting, wildlife gardening, and as a certified seed collector to his work on community engagement, and urban ecological restoration. His work aims to strengthen the reciprocal connections between humans, plants and wildlife. He has been growing native plants in containers on his balcony in downtown Toronto for over 10 years with many lessons learned along the way.
